Ramadhan is just peeking around the corner! So you know what this means – it’s time to prep yourselves and your loved ones for this upcoming blessed month.

We clean our houses, buy new clothes and learn new recipes to get ready for Hari Raya – similarly, one should take the time to start anew for Ramadhan.

And what better way than to start on the last weekend before it begins?

There are tons of special events lined up for you, your friends and families this coming 6th and 7th of July.

For those who are seeking to “level up” your Islamic knowledge, then heading for “The Hikam – Life’s Wisdom: A Manual for the Path to Allah” would be a great way to start.

It is a 2 days discourse held at Madrasah Aljunied starting on the 6th of July and starts at 10am. What one learns in this is the sacred text of Hikam of Ibn Ataillah:

“The Hikam is basically a series of aphorisms for the spiritual seeker, touching on faith, our relationship with Allah, purification of the soul, proper manners for one on ‘the path’, and so on.  Each line is succinct, eloquent, and carries within it so many layers of depth and meaning.”

As the wise Hamza Yusuf once said, “Ancients wrote sentences that could be commented on in a book. Moderns write books that can be summed up in a sentence.”

In the past, books such as these would not be read unaccompanied by a dedicated teacher. You can expect to be in the hands of one this Saturday, as the blessed Shaykh Walead Mosaad will be your guide.

Shaykh Walead Mosaad is an educator and researcher of many accolades, and he has completed degrees in al-Azhar university and the University of Liverpool, and is currently pursuing his PhD in Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter in the UK.

If you’re looking to bring your children or your whole family out for some fun, you can head down to Madrasah Alsagoff for their Pasar Amal taking place on the 6th of July, from 9am to 2pm.

There will be lots of food for you, from Burgers to Pastries and many many more – plus there will be activities lined up for those looking to whip up something special for future Iftaars – a cooking demo will be held by Us. Siti Rahmah Abd. Hamid.

Once you’re all filled up, don’t stop there – push on and bring more smiles to your little ones at Madrasah Aljunied’s family carnival! It’s completely free of charge, filled with loads of entertainment for both the young and the young at heart.

The highlights of this event include:

– Carnival Games for Children AND Adults (yay!)

– Ramadhan Bites

– Qasidah

This carnival would be especially beneficial for children, who learn through play.

All of us need a prompt once in a while, so be sure to jot this down in your calendar.

Finally, taking place at Al Falah Mosque, from 8am to 12pm, is the Siri 22: Majlis Selawat ke Atas Rasullulah s.a.w.

This event will be graced by Ustaz Mohamad Hasbi Bin Haji Hassan, Ustaz Mohamed Feisal, Ustaz Muhammad Zahid Mohd Zin and Ustaz Ismail Hashim (Imam | Pegawai Dakwah Masjid).

Also, there will be a mass Solat Hajat taking place at 9am, be sure not to miss that!

From Anas bin Malik, Nabi s.a.w said:

“Whosoever say the selawat upon me, Allah will reward him with 10 blessings, 10 of his sins will be forgiven and he will be exalted by 10 degrees.” (al-Bukhari)
