Ever flowing water from the Zamzam well.
Ever flowing water from the Zamzam well.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The best water on Earth is the water of Zamzam.” Now if a testimony from the best man on Earth is not enough, let’s explore why this water is really the best of them all.

1. Zamzam is not just for consumption, but can be used to heal sickness.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The best water on the face of the earth is the water of Zamzam; it is a kind of food and a healing from sickness.” (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3302).

It was reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) drank it, did wudoo’ with it and poured it on his head. He used to carry Zamzam water in small vessels and large containers in order to pour it on the sick and give it to them to drink. (al-Silsilat al-Saheehah, 883).

2. Zamzam water is what one intends to drink for.

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.” (Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 3062)

The prophet Mohammed [PBUH] said, “The water of Zamzam fulfils the purpose for which it has been drunk”. [Refer to Misnad Ahmed].

However, do note that this must be done with full confidence and faith that this will work, if God wills. If one drinks it with zero or partial confidence and expects it to work, and then they might feel disappointed if it does not work the way they have envisioned it to be. Furthermore, remember that drinking Zamzam is one of our efforts to achieve our intentions but it is Allah that cures sickness and gives you sustenance.

3. It is packed with multiple elements that are good for your body.

The Chemical analysis of Zamzam water contains multiple elements such as Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Bicarbonate, Chloride, Fluoride, Nitrate, Sulfate, and other minerals.

Zamzam water has also been treated by ultraviolet rays and microorganisms have no place to survive in it, which means that Zamzam water preserves its taste and is not a good environment for bacteria.
According to various chemical analyses, dry weather make Zamzam more saline through evaporation, which is, with Allaah’s might, good for the human body.

4. It has been proven to prevent the formation of kidney stones.

In a study done by Dr. Saeed Al Ghamdi from the Faculty of Medicine, Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah in the Open Journal of Preventive Medicine, it had been proven that the multi-ionic contents of Zamzam water prevent the formation of renal stone that illustrates the special characteristic of this water and make it different from other types of waters.

An experiment was done on groups of rats and in the rats that were fed Zamzam water, he found that they released a lot more urine than the others. This indicated the diuretic effects of Zamzam, which is the ability to be a tool to release body toxins through urine. In addition, the pH of the urine was found to be of high alkaline pH of 7.3, which could decrease the formation of kidney stones. This is because when the bad toxins are appropriately and regularly released, there will be less possibility of the formation of crystals in the kidneys.

5. It commemorates a special incident in Islamic history with Siti Hajar and her son Ismail.

When you are drinking this, be present to the courage of Siti Hajar, the intellect of Prophet Ismail when he was a baby, the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim a.s. in leaving his wife and son in the valley of Safa and Marwa with the full faith and confidence that Allah will take care of them.

6. Zamzam will be kept as pure as possible as it is protected by Allah.

Zamzam water is different from other water in many ways: first no bacteria can form at its source. Second, it doesn’t go mouldy nor does it change colour, taste or smell. Biological growth and vegetation usually take place in most wells and this makes water unpalatable owing to the growth of algae leading to changes in taste and odour. However, in Zamzam water well, there isn’t any sign of biological growth.

The Haj research center also conducted special researches about Zamzam water and it found that it has a wonderful physique that makes it different from other drinkable liquids. The Haj research center tells that when they were digging for more wells of Zamzam they found the more they take from the well the more the amount of water becomes. They also examined the extent of its purity and they found that it is pure and sterile water that has no any germs in it.

7. The water in the Zamzam well is ever-flowing and will continue to be.

The water level is 3.23 m (10.6 ft) below the surface. A pumping test at 8,000 litres per second (280 cu ft/s) for more than a 24 hour period showed a drop in water level from 3.23 m (10.6 ft) below surface to 12.72 m (41.7 ft) and then to 13.39 m (43.9 ft), after which the water level stopped receding. When pumping stopped, the water level recovered to 3.9 m (13 ft) below surface only 11 minutes later. This data shows that the aquifer feeding the well seems to recharge from rock fractures in neighbouring mountains around Mecca.
