In a complex society as of today, we are choked by stress almost every day. People are attacked by various diseases, why?

The first and the foremost reason is stress. Stress shuts down our immune system making us vulnerable to various deadly diseases of all kinds.

We all are constantly striving to find inner peace and experience happiness.

I would like to take this opportunity and tell you about few ways to find inner peace and happiness-

1. CULTIVATING SPIRITUALITY-

“Prayer is the most powerful form of energy one can generate….It supplies us with a flow of sustaining power in our daily lives.” ~Alexis Carrel

Having faith in God helps us to be very strong during the time of adversities.

When we realize that there is actually someone who is always there for us no matter what, helps us to deal with our daily stresses and relatively calms us down.

Meditation is one of the way through which we can find immense inner peace. Take out 15-20 minutes every day from your schedule to meditate and see the difference. Meditation is a natural stress buster and helps in self healing.

2. DO WHAT YOU LOVE-

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” ~Confucius

It is as simple as this quote tells us, yet seems to be difficult for many people. If you currently are in a job which you don’t like, what happens? You are not satisfied, unhappy, work seems to be dragging and you don’t have inner peace at all.

If you ask any successful person, about their secret to success, they will definitely tell you that it is something they love to do and hence they do it effortlessly. Yes, this is a key, do what ‘You’ love and what ‘You’ are good at. We all have different likes, abilities and interests.

Find what you are passionate about and you are more likely to excel in it. Similarly, it is good to practice our hobbies and interests regularly, as it keeps us contented, happy and helps us to find inner peace.

3. LIVE IN THE PRESENT-

“Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present. ~Bilkeane

We all have a bad habit to feel sad or depressed over something which happened in the past or we constantly worry about something yet to come. All this can very much affect our peace of mind and add up to our stress levels. It is very important to live our present happily for a beautiful future and to realize that past has gone and we can’t change it now. So take each day as it comes and live happily!

4. BE OPTIMISTIC-

“The predominant quality of successful people is optimism….Your level of optimism is the very best predictor of how happy, healthy, wealthy and long-lived you will be.” ~Brian Tracy, Focal Point

Optimism is a great asset for us. Even when we are stripped of all the good things in life or undergone a tragedy, it is our optimistic attitude which calms us and keeps us alive.

Optimism has innumerable benefits. It reduces our stress levels, helps us to deal with failure, creates a positive attitude, improves our relationships, helps us to believe in our dreams, makes us successful, promotes good health, helps us to find inner peace and happiness are just a few to name.

5. EAT HEALTHY AND EXERCISE REGULARLY-

“The body is the soul’s house. Shouldn’t we therefore takecare of our house so that it doesn’t fall into ruin?” ~Philo

Consuming a well balanced diet not only keep’s us physically fit but also psychologically. When we don’t consume a balanced diet, we can develop nutritional deficiencies and deficiencies also have an impact on our mental state of mind. Malnourished people are more likely to be irritable, depressed and sad as compared to people who consume adequate nutrition.

Therefore, we should consume a healthy diet not only to stay physically fit but psychologically healthy. Exercise is also good for both mind and body. Regular exercise increases the release of endorphins which is a hormone that improves a person’s mood. Exercise decreases our stress levels, keeps depression at bay, improves our self esteem, thereby contributing to peace and happiness.

6. ACCEPT AND LOVE YOURSELF THE WAY YOU ARE-

“Like the sky opens after a rainy day we must open to ourselves….Learn to love yourself for who you are and open so the world can see you shine.” ~James Poland

Many people worry about their bodies, their facial features, the mistakes they made, or worry about their weaknesses.

There are few things in life, on which we don’t have any control. Just accept the things that you can’t change in your life and make good changes where it is possible. Take a look at your good traits and feel good about them. Don’t feel guilty for making mistakes.

Everyone does mistakes, and it is better to learn from them and then carry on with life. Every person is different with unique body types. Therefore, it is important to accept ourselves with the body we have and recognize its beauty.

7. FORGIVE PEOPLE AND CULTIVATE GOOD RELATIONSHIPS-

“Present your family and friends with their eulogies now- they won’t be able to hear how much you love them and appreciate them from inside the coffin.” ~Anonymous

It is very common for us to hold grudges and resentment with our family members, collegues, friends etc. What actually happens to us when are angry with any person? We release negative energy, spoil our own mood and feel miserable. Instead of this, why not we let go of all these negative thoughts and forgive people? This attitude will benefit us very much, giving us inner peace. We must try and look at the good traits of people than their negative ones.

Inner peace also depends on the wellbeing of others. We should treat people with respect, be kind, caring and loving. We should spend quality time with our family and treat them with love. Relationships are a mirror to our own self, hence, what we give is what we get.

8. SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE-

“The simplification of life is one of the steps to inner peace. A persistent simplification will create an inner and outer-wellbeing that places harmony in one’s life.” ~Peace Pilgrim

What happens when we squeeze many unnecessary things on our to-do list of every day? We get stressed, drained, overworked and have no peace at all. It is better to do 2-3 main things in a day and give your entire focus on it. Cluttered space gives us a stressful feeling. Declutter your office table, your wardrobe, your room or your entire house. Throw the stuff you don’t need or give away. Getting rid of the clutter helps to run our life more smoothly. It is also important to avoid unnecessary activities and worries for inner peace and tranquility.

By applying these methods in our lives, one can find peace and happiness. These are just few ways to find peace and happiness, we can add more to it. One cannot expect to change in a day or two. It requires a lot of hard work, discarding of our negative attitudes, beliefs and behaviors.

I would like to wish you all the best, in this beautiful endeavour to find your inner peace and happiness. Love life and enjoy!
