Alhamdulillah, after experiencing our driest spell since 1869, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has announced that all mosques in Singapore will be performing the Prayer for Rain (Solat Istisqa’) this coming Friday, 14th March 2014, after the Jum’ah prayer. They have also posted a handy infographic on basic information on the prayer. You can find this below in English and Malay:

As mentioned in the infographic, it is best to perform charity before the prayer. Prophet Muhammad (S) said, “Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” Donate as much as you can either in the mosque’s donation boxes or to the needy you meet along the way.

The Prayer for Rain is also done with great humility and repentance. Indeed we are asking for Allah’s Rahmah as rain is a sign of his Mercy. Of course He can send down rain without any conditions, but for us to ask from Him, it is only of good adab and etiquette that we humble ourselves and realise that as far as technology and our intellect goes, the rain, and every goodness, is ultimately from Him and with His Permission.

Please share this information far & wide and encourage our family & friends to turn up in droves this Friday for this special prayer.

We should also keep the passengers, crew, family members and also everyone involved in the Search & Rescue mission for the missing MH370 in our prayers and ask Allah to give them strength & patience and show us a sign so that the airplane can be found soonest possible.

It would be good to specify the date of the prayer to prevent confusion as this gets passed along. Salam.
