About a week or two ago, I was alerted to this new website and decided to have a look around. That few minutes on the site left me pleasantly surprised. Not only is the website pleasing to the eye, the content is just as pleasing to the mind & soul.

While WorkingMuslim.com aims to change the misconception of Muslim women in the workplace, I believe it is equally beneficial to men & women alike. For one, the articles address issues that both sexes face in working life. They have articles about gender mixing at the workplace, ideas about measuring success, work-related health articles and also one on riya’ or showing off. These are issues that would propel one to self-betterment regardless of your gender. One might argue that you can get similar articles on the web. My rebuttal is that Working Muslim has done just that for you and it caters to all your needs – mental, physical, emotional and especially spiritual. Why go looking for them elsewhere when you can get them all at one place?

As I read the testimonials on the website, I got curious as to what the e-book contains. I downloaded and was hooked reading it and reflecting on it for the next 2 hours!

The e-book is about Work Faith Balance and it delivers exactly what it promised. I found the workouts especially useful in thinking about my own values and priorities, and especially helping to guide my thoughts with regards to work, happiness & success. The workouts are exercises throughout the book that requires you to answer several questions. The best thing about these workouts are that you assume you know these things if someone were to ask you, but in actuality, it reveals more about you to yourself! For example, I always thought I placed creativity and job security high on the list.

After doing the workout, I realized that being able to influence and motivate others, as well as being good at what I do, far surpass those two I mentioned earlier. You may think that it is a trivial thing but it does help greatly in thinking about the different career paths I would want to embark on, as different people experience satisfaction from completely opposing things.

The e-book does not only provide relevant tips with regards to work and dunya, but most importantly, it beautifully weaves anecdotes and advices with regards to work and akhirah, at once supplying the work faith balance that any working Muslim craves for. I shall end with this quote that they furnished in the e-book :

The Companions saw a man and were astonished by his hard work and industry. They lamented: “If he were only doing this much work for the sake of Allah …”

Prophet Muhammad sallAllahu alaihi wasallam replied:

“If he is working to support his small children, then it is for the sake of Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala. If he is working to support his elderly parents, then it is for the sake of Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala. If he is working to occupy himself and keep his desires in check, then it is for the sake of Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala. If, on the other hand, he is doing so to show off and earn fame, then he is working for the sake of Satan.”
